Conflict: Obasanjo Slams Jonathan Again

Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo has criticised Goodluck Jonathan for lacking vision in the rehabilitation of the Nigerian railways. obasanjo and jonathan Nigerian Bulletin reports that the Jonathan administration had embarked on the rehabilitation of the railway system abandoned by previous governments, with a view of overhauling the sector which had decayed for years. According to Obasanjo, the railway lines which were constructed in 1903, had become obsolete, hence they could not match the modern global trends. “For what reason should anybody in his right senses in Nigeria of today believe that rehabilitating the railway system which was completed in 1903 to carry three million tonnes of goods is what we need today,” he said. Obasanjo noted that the system was divided into Eastern and Western sections, and lamented that the latter caused a whopping 8.3 billion Dollars. Shocking: Police Jail Woman Who Had Sex And Gave Birth For Best Friend’s 12-year- Old

A woman who had sex with her best friend’s 12- year-old son and then gave birth to his baby has been jailed for at least three years. According to Metro UK, the 40-year-old woman began an amorous relationship with the 12-year-old after she started driving him and her daughter to school and developed feelings for him. The pair were said to have had unprotected sex once a week over a five-month period. The woman, whose name was withheld, pleaded guilty at Victoria County Court in Melbourne, Australia, to the persistent sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16. “You failed to recognise that your feelings for the boy were completely inappropriate. “You commenced and continued an abusive sexual relationship,” a judge said to the accused. Meanwhile, the woman gave birth to a girl in May last year. It was gathered that the boy’s mother, who was best friends with the woman, even visited in hospital – completely ignorant of the fact that her 12-year-old son was the father. However, during the hearing of the case, the boy’s mother, bitterly described to the court how her son’s childhood was callously taken away, further narrating the ordeals the 12-year-old has to go through, in a bid to adjust to fatherhood. A Nigerian student, Victor Olalusi, has reportedly scored 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at the Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow, a world record. This piece of information was made available by the federal ministry of education on Wednesday in Abuja, when it honoured the young doctor, who achieved the feat in 2013, arguably the first in the world. Young Dr Victor Olalusi shattered any existing record in Russia with his 5.0 CGPA score PM News reports that Olalusi, who was the best graduating student in the whole of the Russian Federation in 2013, studied in RNRMU under the Russia-Nigeria Bilateral Education Agreement when he achieved the enviable feat. Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, permanent secretary in the ministry, said a lot of Nigerian students were brilliant but Olalusi was a genius and had become an ambassador not only to the ministry but to Nigeria and Russia. He said: “we have to search the Guinness Book of Records for anybody who has achieved 5.0 in a university. It is curious and strange that all those that evaluated his performance could not find reason to reduce a point from him. “You should be the ambassador of the Federal Scholarship Board, Ministry of Education, Nigeria and the Russian Federation. “I look forward to the day you will stand before the President to receive your honour. We have recommendations to that effect.” Olalusi was also urged to continue in his responsibility as a role model to young Nigerians and to explore opportunities in post graduate research. Mrs Ifeoma Agunwa, the Director, Federal Scholarship Board, while addressing the audience during the event, noted that Olalusi made 5.0 GPA in all the courses he took in the seven years he studied Medicine in Russia. “Olalusi never had a 4.99 GPA. Even in the Russian language class, he did not fall below 5.0,” she explained. The representative of the Russian Embassy in Nigeria, Mr Artem Romanov, agreed also, that Olalusi’s feat was very significant for everybody in Russia and commended Nigerians for having many potentials in Russia. According to him: “Nigeria is blessed with abundant human potential which is officially acknowledged in Russia. “It has been acknowledged in the Russian Ministry of Education that Nigerians have a lot of exceptional talents. Genetically, Nigerians grasp knowledge easily. “Olalusi is a hardworking person. GOOD NEWS: Port Harcourt And Warri Refineries Begin Oil Production – NNPC

After nine months of rehabilitation the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced the successful re-streaming of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries. The Punch reports that after successful test runs, the refineries began production with the Port Harcourt Refining Company reaching 60 per cent of its production capacity. The Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company is expected to reach 80 per cent of its production capacity too. The NNPC projected that the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries are expected to produce 5 million and 3.5 million litres per day respectively. The NNPC explained that rehabilitation of the refineries had to be switched from the original builders to new ones after the former nominated some partners that came up with ‘outrageously unfavourable terms’ With the successful project carried out on the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, focus is now on the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company which is expected to come on stream too. Meanwhile, Opeyemi Agbaje, the chief executive officer of RTC Advisory Services Limited, stated that the time was rip e for the federal government to remove the fuel subsidy. Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, prominent Enugu cleric, has answered to President Muhammadu Buhari’s commendations on occasion of his 20th priesthood anniversary. Mbaka has defined his anniversary as victory over enemies of truth and blackmailers. The wife of the Enugu state governor, Monica Ugwuanyi and thousands of believers have attended the mass. The catholic priest said despite all the attacks against him, God continually defend him because he stayed on the side of the truth. He said: “I am not tired after 20 years, 20 years of good health; 20 years of miracles from God; 20 years of hard apostolic work; 20 years in the hand of God. “There was a time they blackmailed me; they were saying such things like ‘Mbaka why? Mbaka this, Mbaka that’, but I have remained in the hand of God.” Meanwhile, Mbaka said he had forgiven his attackers, praying God to “forgive all those who have fought us on the course of this ministry and bless those who have stood behind us.” Prominent cleric in a special message, entitled, ’20- point agenda,’ said he was praying for President Buhari “that God will protect him so that enemies will not destroy him. I also pray for Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi so that God will not allow occultic men to steal his vision.” Maximus Ugwuoke, the ministerial spokesperson, in a short address to the journalists, said blackmail and needless criticisms had rather supported the cleric. His words: “Those who are saying he should stay out of politics are misguided. It is part of the role of priests. So, they are merely trying to cow him down but I can tell you that Fr. Mbaka is not somebody to be intimidated; the more they do this, the more he is strengthened.“In these past years, you can see how God had vindicated him; you can see his prophetic message before the general elections; at a time, he was repeating that prophecy even in the face of threat to his life. So, today, we are celebrating victory against enemies of truth.” It would be recalled that Buhari praised the patriotic spirit of the prominent cleric saying that “Father Mbaka is a great priest who was not afraid to speak truth to power, even at the cost of his own life or being hated by leaders in power.” It should be also noted that that Mbaka’s message of change, which he brought before the March 28 presidential poll, attracted criticisms, particularly from the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party. Man Dies After Drinking 20 Sachets Of Gin In N500 Bet

A middle-aged man, identified as Chucks from Imo State, has died after consuming 20 sachets of gin in a N500 bet with a woman. The deceased, said to be a barber, is married with a child and lived along Ngwa Road area of Aba, Abia State. An eyewitness said the deceased had on the fateful day, gone to a nearby local shop situated within the area to take a sachet of his usual brand of gin and boosted to the shop owner that he could finish 20 sachets of the drink. This was said to have led to an argument between the deceased and the shop owner and other customers in the shop that morning. The argument, it was learned, reached a stage where the deceased deposited N500 and the shop owner also placed her own N500 in a bet. The deceased was then provided with the sachet drinks for consumption. It was gathered that he successfully consumed the 20 sachets of dry gin and went away with the bet money. The deceased was said to have left his barbing salon earlier that day to his house when he started feeling some pains in his stomach and asked his wife to put on their sitting room ceiling fan and sat directly beneath it. When his condition got worse, his wife asked him what the problem was. A source said the deceased told his wife he was okay, but just needed rest.

Man cuts off wife’s hand over adultery allegation

ABA—Man, identified as Jacob Nwachukwu from Abala in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, has cut off his wife’s left hand over allegation of infidelity. The man’s wife, Mrs Nwadiokeonu Nwachukwu, is now at a hospital in Aba, while her severed hand had been taken to her husband’s village at Abala for burial. The incident happened, Monday, at Ogbor Hill Area of Aba, where the woman had lived for years, while the husband lived at their Abala village. A female co-tenant of Mrs Nwachukwu, who craved anonymity, told Vanguard that the couple had lived in the city for years before the husband lost his job and had to relocate to the village, leaving his wife, a trader, in the city. She said: “The couple had always quarrelled any time the man visited his wife in the city, to the extent that all the tenants are aware and intervened in their quarrels.” The man was said to have visited the wife on the day and during their usual quarrel, brought out a machete, cut off the wife’s hand and left with it to the village, while neighbours rushed her to the hospital. It was gathered that Mr. Nwachukwu’s intention was to kill his wife with the machete but missed the target as the woman was said to have used the severed hand to defend herself. The suspected lover of the woman is said to be on the run, while her landlord reported the incident to a police station close to the hospital along Ogbor Hill, where the woman is currently on admission. Area Commander, Aba Police Command, Mr. Peter Wabara, in a response to a text message, said the incident was yet to be reported to him. However, a police officer at Ogbor Hill Police Station, confirmed the incident and said investigation into the matter had commenced. FG Stop JAMB On Re-posting Of Post-UTME Candidates

Indication emerged that the Federal Government has reject the decision of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to redistribute UTME candidates to other universities that have lower number of applicants than what they can admit. This was promulgate to liveschoolnews.com.ng grapevine by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. MacJohn Nwaobiala. Mr. MacJohn Nwaobiala, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday, after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari of his ministry’s activities and challenges at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. It will be recalled that JAMB had, at its 2015 Combined Policy Meeting, adopted a policy whereby candidates of universities with surplus applicants for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations are reassigned to other universities with lower number of applicants than their capacities. Nationwide outrage had greeted a policy adopted by JAMB at its 2015 combined policy meeting, in which potential candidates seeking admission in universities with surplus applicants for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations are reassigned to other universities that have lower number of applicants than what they can admit. Protest started at the University of Lagos when the institution’s authorities announced that only candidates whose names were officially forwarded by JAMB are eligible to participate in this year’s UNILAG Post-UTME. Nwaobiala told reporters that the decision was jointly taken at a stakeholders’ meeting that had parents and others in attendance. He said because of the dust raised by the development, the Federal Government had commenced consultation with the aim of identifying where adjustments could be made. He however said students that made the cut-off marks have been directed to go and write post- UME examinations in their schools of first choice since that was the bone of contention. Nwaobiala said, “This JAMB thing has been there. As the policy making body, when these issues were raised, they raised in a stakeholders meeting. We normally have what we call the policy meeting. Everything about admission are discussed with parents and other stakeholders at the meeting. “These are decisions that we collectively took. However, we have a listening hear. We have taken a lot of the issues raised into consideration and we are consulting to see the adjustments we can make here and there. “The directive has been given. All the students that made the cut-off marks have been told to go and write post-UME examinations in their schools of first choice. After, they can go to their schools of second choice. That has been the bone of contention.” On the threat by the West African Examinations Council to withhold the results of candidates in 19 states, who wrote the May/June 2015 WASSCE following unpaid examination fees by the state governments, Nwaobiala appealed to states to fulfil their promises.

JAMB New Admission Policy. What Candidates Should Know

The Joint Admission Matriculation Examination Board has come into the spotlight this week after JAMB began to redistribute candidates to Nigerian Universities for the post UMTE. JAMB’s admission policy is based on 45% merit, 35% from catchment areas(Candidates from States surrounding University of first choice), and 20% of candidates from Educationally disadvantaged States. Nigeria’s top Universities are Universities of Lagos, Ibadan, Ife, Ilorin, Nsuka, Benin. Non of these Universities has capacity for more than 9,000 students, but some of them have received admission requests in excess of 100,000. The admission spaces for Nigerian Universities in total is 450,000 for about 140 Universities and over 1,300,000 candidates wrote the 2015 Computer Based Test for entry into These Universities. University of Lagos for instance has about 9,000 spaces but over 32,000 scored above 200 in JAMB. So what’s the easy way out to get admitted into your choice University and choice course of study? You must study hard and be on the merit list of 45% for your University of choice. In order words to study Medicine, Law, Accounting, Computer Science, and Engineering in Nigeria’s top Universities you should score 275 and above to qualify for Post UMTE and your Post UMTE score has to be very good too, otherwise with scores lower than 275 there is no guarantee a candidate will qualify based on the other two criterium of “catchment area”and “educationally disadvantaged” State of origin.

The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, has come out and give a very vivid explanation why pregnant women and nursing mothers were banned from the service. Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi said that pregnant women and nursing mothers were banned to make the programme more effective and to prevent a situation where they would be managing pregnant women and nursing mothers. The NYSC boss promulgate this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital yesterday while inspecting facilities at the Nigerian Army School of Education (NASE), Sobi Barack ahead of the NYSC’s promotion examination and interview slated for today. He Said, “What we are saying is when a woman is pregnant, in the past we have had pregnant women, nursing mothers coming to camp. These were people who have come to camp, rather we see ourselves managing them. So what we are saying now is if you are pregnant, why don’t you go, deliver and then when you are okay, you come and do your service, it is in their own interest and also to give effectiveness to what we are doing in the scheme. “I have come here at the Nigerian Army School of Education to look at the facilities available which the NYSC plans to use for our promotion exam that is taking place tomorrow. “I have gone round and I have seen very good, excellent facilities and I think I must give kudos to the commandant of the school for maintaining these facilities in the shape they are and they are quite fine for the purpose for which we want to use them tomorrow”. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had on July 23, barred pregnant women, nursing mothers and students engaged in postgraduate studies from enlisting in the national service across the country.

UTME Candidates Can Now Check The School They Have Been Re- signed To

This is to inform members of the public in particular all 2015 UTME Candidates who participate in the 2015/2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and did not obtained the required cut-off mark of their preferred universities that provision has now be made for such candidates to check the school they have been re- signed to. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially activate its portal for UTME candidates to check the school they have been re- signed to. It would be recalled that over 59,000 candidates who applied for admission into the University of Lagos through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were rejected by the school management. This was irrespective of the fact that majority of the students scored above the Board’s cut-off mark. Such candidates can now check the school they have been re-signed to. Warning: Checking of the school you are redistributed to is free of charge (FOC). You don’t need to buy scratch card nor make payment to anybody.

Chimpanzee Bites off 10-year-old Boy’s Buttocks in Uganda-(VIDEO)

A 10-year-old boy has been hospitalized in a serious condition to Kamwenge Health Centre, Southwest Uganda, after a Kibale National Park chimpanzee bit off his buttocks, the media reported on Wednesday. The boy identified as Paddy Ankunda, was attacked by the chimpanzee on Saturday, June 1, as he was walking along the forest in Kibale National Park in the afternoon with a friend identified as Amos Tukundane, 13. According to his friend, who escaped, the chimpanzee attacked him from behind as he was moving from his home in Kahungye Parish and when he tried to escape, it over powered him and grabbed him before eating off his buttocks.
