A student, Kazeem Olajide Bashir, has revealed how he sat for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) 12 times, choosing Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, before he was finally given admission in the 2016 UTME.
In an interview with newsmen, Bashir disclosed that he started sitting for UTME, with OAU as his first choice in 2004,and with scores far above 200 ever since then, but never secured the admission.

He stated that his humble background coupled with his flair for justice made him not to think of choosing any other institution apart of OAU which he explained had been his dream university since his secondary school days.
According to him, the dream of studying Law at the first generation university almost got dashed before his face, when he tried for over 8 times without success.
He added that he was discouraged after his efforts proved abortive but also got encouragement from the few good people around him.
Sincerely, my case is pathetic, I went through a chronic psychological trauma in my quest for gown and wig at OAU. I almost lost my mind, but for constant encouragement from many of my friends and relatives.
“The moral supports from my immediate family, especially my father gave me the requisite impetus to move on till I attained success, he said.
He stated that he had score nothing less than 200 in UTME exams since 2004 with good grades in post-UTME but couldn't make the supplementary list after all efforts.
He added that despite everything, optimism was his watchword and he never up.
" People will be wondering how am going to scale through considering the economy of the country coupled with the fact that my father is just a meat seller and my mum a petty trader, but that is not a logical excuse for me to quit, I believe there is a way, where there is the will.” he added.

When the brother in question was called, he said he had never for once thought them to sag but on the contrary he doesn't need to, they can see and easily emulate him.
The kind of person you are today is the product of the person you have been emulating over time(mentoring you). You are now getting to mentor others,so how do you do that?
I have seen people dress shabbily while going out with the saying "who is looking at me ?" My dear a lot of people are looking you.

Report reaching us has it that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the November/December 2016 Senior School Certificate Examinations.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Charles Uwakwe, who disclosed this today in Minna also revealed that the results were released exactly 60 days after the exams.
“A total of 47,941 candidates registered, out of which 47,118 sat for the exams and the number of candidates with five credits, including Mathematics and English Language, put at 28,530 (60.55%).” He stated.
He advised candidates to access their results on the NECO website: www.mynecoexam.com, using their Examination Registration Number and scratch cards.

The Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo, state, Dr. Jafaru Buraimah, has Saturday appealed to the striking unions in the school to shelve their strike in the best interest of the institution.

He made the plea while briefing journalists in Auchi, Etsako West local government area of state, over the impasse between the management of the institution and the unions.
It would be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (NASUP), had embarked on an indefinate strike on February 6, over failure of institution’s management to enroll members on “CONTISS 15 Migration Salary Structure for Level 11 downward, promotion arrears and alledged indebetdeness of N1.8billion owed the unions.
“I am appealing to them that they should go and resume their officials duties so that the system can function normally.
“I dont think it is proper for the polytechnic primary school and secondary school to be locked up, students of the polytechnic are denied their lectures.
“I dont think it is proper, so i appeal to the workers, the unions in the polytechnic to please call off the strike and let academic activities resume normally,” Buraimah said.
According to him, the management could no longer fund the CONTISS 15 Migration salaries for level 11 downward, adding that it does not have cash backing by the Federal Government.
He said that management had been using its internally generated revenue to pay workers’ salaries, adding that the attitude was no longer sustainable.
“On the issue of CONTISS 15 Migration for level 11 downward, management migrated staffs of grade level 11 downward, and management started payment of their CONTISS 15 migration from internally generated revenue.
“The use of the internal generated revenue for CONTISS 15 Migration is what led to the accumulation of management indebtedness to the unions,” he said.
Buraimah said that the school management was indebted to tune of N868.7million to the unions, adding that the alleged claim of N1.8 billion by the union was untrue.
“I have decided to address you this morning and to correct the misinformation that have been spread around about the true position of Auchi polytechnic.
“For the purpose of clarity and for the need of information on the level of Auchi poly management indebtedness to the union and association of Auchi polytechnic, i hereby announce that the total accumulated indebtedness is N868.7million and not billion.
“And this money does not just accumulated within my one year of administration, the accumulation started from the past administration, and of course my administration added to it,” he said.
The Acting Rector disclosed that the institution’s management had set up a committee to workout the modalities of the gradual refund of the total sum of money to the union and association on campus.
He added the management was working in line with the Federal Government to ensure that the promotion arrears for staff of the institution were paid.
“Promotion arrears of 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 i hereby announce that this are issues that are being address by the Federal Government and once they are resolve, decision are pass down for implementation, then we will implement,” he said.
