Breaking News!! FG Scraps Post-UTME, Pegs Cut-Off Mark At 180

ABUJA - The Federal Government has scrapped post-
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, as a
pre-condition to gaining admission into universities in
the country.


The government and stakeholders in education sector
also pegged 180 as benchmark for 2016 admission into
universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to
improve quality of education in Nigeria.
These decisions were reached at the 2016 Combined
Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities,
Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.

The Minister of Education , Malam Adamu Adamu, while
declaring open the meeting, said since the federal
government and stakeholders had confidence in the
examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and
Matriulation Board, JAMB, there was no need for other
examinations to be conducted by universities after JAMB
exams.

He said: "As far as I am concerned, the nation has
confidence in what JAMB is doing, the universities should
not be holding another examinations and if the
universities have any complain against JAMB, let them
bring it and then we address it.

''But if JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and
they have conducted test, then there will be no need to
conduct another test for students to gain admission.

FG Dispels Rumour On Scraping Of NYSC

The Federal Government has dispel the
rumours making rounds that the National
Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has been
scraped.


This was contained in a statement
credited to the special adviser to the
resident on Media & Publicity, Garba
Shehu.

According to him, "NYSC is a creation of the law. Only
another law can repeal it."

The public are therefore advised to disregard the rumours
as it is unfounded.

Breaking: FG Order Banks Not To Sack Workers

The federal government has directed banks, insurance and financial
institutions to suspend plans to sack workers in the sector.
Minister of labour and employment, Chris Ngige in a statement said;


"Following spate of petitions and complaints from stakeholders in the
banking, insurance and financial institutions, I hereby direct the
suspension of the on-going retrenchment pending the outcome of the
conciliatory meetings in the industry,"

"This is as a result of the apprehension by my office of the various
disputes in the sector in accordance and in compliance with the
provisions of the labour laws of Nigeria.
"In this wise, all the retrenchments and redundancies done in the last
four months and all proposed ones should be put on hold pending the
outcome of the proposed stakeholders' summit for the banking,
insurance and financial institutions' employers and employees, slated for
July 2."

The statement added that the continued retrenchment and redundancy by
the sector were jeopardising the outcome of the reconciliatory and
mediatory processes undertaken by the ministry.

FG Declares Monday May 30th A Public Holiday

The federal government has declared
Monday, May 30, as public holiday to
celebrate the 2016 Democracy Day.


This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior,
Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), on
Wednesday in Abuja.

In a statement signed by the Permanent
Secretary in the ministry of interior, Mr.

Bassey Akpanyung, the signing into law of the
2016 Appropriation Act, the country would witness a "New
Deal" with its full implementation.

He congratulated Nigerians on the attainment of one year in
office of President Muhammadu Buhari and enjoined all to
continue to support the president in his sustained effort to
build a peaceful, enduring and democratic legacy and
wished Nigerians happy democracy day celebration.
