Senior Police Officer Dies In House Fire With His Four Children [May Their Soul R. !. P]

Tragedy struck on Monday in Jenta Adamu in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State when a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, Anthony Kwanmi, and three of his children were burnt to death in an early morning fire that engulfed his house.

His wife and one of his children were lucky, as they escaped but with serious burns.

The survivors were admitted at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital (Jankwano), Jos, where they were receiving treatment. It was learnt that Kwanmi hailed from the Shendam LGA and recently retired from the police force.

An eyewitness said the deceased, who was a former aide-de-camp to ex-civilian governor of the state, Mr. Fidelis Tapgun, was burnt to death together with his children.

The witness said the fire started after an electric spark from a meter in the house.
He said, “The meter was mounted at the entrance to the building. There was a spark from the meter which started the fire. Because the meter was at the entrance, the fire prevented them from escaping. It quickly spread to other rooms in the house.”

Kwanmi and his family went to bed and locked their doors at about 2.30am after watching a football match between Nigeria and Sweden in the ongoing Olympics Competition in Rio, Brazil.
However, neighbours were woken up by the cries for help from the children, who were sleeping in a room close to their father’s.

Kwanmi reportedly made spirited efforts to open the door and free himself and the children, but the thick smoke billowing from the fire prevented him.

Sadly, their charred remains were removed by neighbours, who had to break down the walls of the house to gain entry.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna, confirmed the incident. May their souls RIP!

Herbalist Kills 13-year-old Boy While Testing Anti-bullets Charms [SEE FULL GIST INSIDE]

There was confusion in Enugu community over the weekend after a 26-year-old herbalist, Ekene Oluka, allegedly killed a 13-year-old, Obumuneme Oluka, while testing his anti-bullet charm on the deceased.

The incident occurred at Amagu-Uwani, Mgboko, Aku of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State.

Punch reports that the herbalist, whose whereabouts remain unknown at the moment, had, at different occasions, successfully tested his charms, which was said to protect against bullets and cutlass, on the young man.

The report that the herbalist, after covering Obumuneme’s body with his concoction, hit him with a bottle, which went through his vital organs, leaving him unconscious.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ebere Amaraizu, in a statement said the command had activated a manhunt for the fleeing herbalist.

Amaraizu said: “The herbalist, Ekene Oluka, from the same kindred with the deceased, had allegedly tested his charms for protection against guns on the deceased. It was further gathered that the suspect had earlier tested that of cutlass on the deceased, which allegedly worked out for him.

“However, this time it did not work, which caused severe injury on the head of the deceased, leaving him unconscious.
“He was confirmed dead as he was being rushed to the hospital. The body was deposited at the hospital mortuary of Attah Memorial Hospital, Aku.

“Meanwhile, the suspect and his parents have deserted their homes to unknown destinations, while a manhunt for the fleeing suspect has been intensified.”

Man Arrested For Raping One-Year-Old Girl In Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command on Friday paraded 10 criminals arrested for various offences, including armed robbery, rape and theft.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Lawal Shehu, told newsmen the culprits were arrested in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.
He added that one 24 year-old Arigwu Stephen was arrested for allegedly raping a year-old girl in Yar-kede village in 2013.

The father of the victim told The Punch the act was discovered in November 2015 when the daughter (now three) complained of stomach pain and was rushed to Federal Medical Center, Keffi.

He said the doctor decided to run a test and discovered that his daughter was rapped over two years ago.

“I got to know that my daughter was rapped over two years ago after a doctor report at FMC and was admitted for six days before she discharged on Thursday 7, 2016,” he lamented.
The police boss also said the command on July 7, 2016 arrested a suspected kidnapper, who kidnapped a Chinese mining expatriate, Mr. Pan Yuhu and killed a police corporal name (withheld) attached to him.

He said that the suspected kidnapper killed the police corporal and made away with his AK47 rifle with 30 rounds ammunition.

“Since the incident the police commenced an investigation, which eventually led to his arrest in Toto local government area of Nasarawa State."

It was learnt that the deceased, who was on special duty, was serving at Mopol 38 Akwanga as an escort at the time of his death.
“A case of kidnapping occurred at Ayiwawa village where a Chinese mining company Tongyi group is being operated.”

“The suspect was apprehended following a tip off.”

Shehu added that the command arrested a 29 year-old, an indigene of Niger state, who graduated from Nasarawa state University, Keffi in 2012, Mr. Paul Yohana in Keffi local government of the for allegedly robbed some ladies of their six hands set at gun point.

“I was caught in an armed robbery in Keffi local government area of the state when I robbed some ladies of their hand set in the area.”
“I was taken to prison to serve one jailed term in 2014 because I stole a car and released in December last year,” the suspected car snatcher added.

“The gun, which I had been using to terrorize people in Keffi axis, was given to me by my friend, who is also a notorious armed robber in the area.”
